Heilsugreind

Helping healthcare teams plan and improve.

We work with hospitals and clinics to improve patient flow, reduce avoidable waiting, and make scheduling tools practical and usable in everyday work.

About

Heilsugreind was founded in 2017. We work with healthcare organizations on practical improvement projects, where planning, coordination, and capacity constraints matter.

A fundamental challenge in healthcare is to use expensive resources well while maintaining or improving quality of care. This pressure is increasing as health systems face cost constraints, an aging population, and demand for more flexible services.

Collaboration

We have worked with Landspítali University Hospital on a range of improvement projects, and we also collaborate with Reykjalundur.

We work closely with the University of Iceland, including the Faculty of Industrial Engineering, and regularly involve PhD and master’s students in research and applied projects.

Focus

Our emphasis is on making scheduling and planning tools fit real clinical needs. This means supporting the way work is actually done, with multiple stakeholders, changing conditions, and decisions that must be explained and adjusted.

Research with the University of Iceland

Together with researchers and students at the University of Iceland, we are developing approaches that make advanced scheduling more accessible to non-experts.

In practice, there is rarely a single best schedule. People need to compare options, understand trade-offs, and adjust plans when conditions change.

Our work focuses on clear explanations, safe testing before changes are adopted, and tools that help planners stay in control.
